18.01.2008 - Czech Social Democrats propose Dienstbier to Senate
Dienstbier had been considered by the Social Democrats as a candidate for the February presidential elections, but they eventually preferred liberal economist Jan Svejnar.
"We suppose there will be a nomination conference in the Senate constituency," Paroubek said, adding that he believed Dienstbier was an excellent candidate and hoped he would win.
Paroubek did not say clearly whether Dienstbier has accepted the offer.
The Social Democrats also approved the nominations of leaders of lists of candidates to the regional elections scheduled, as those to the Senate, for the end of October and beginning of November.
