22.01.2008 - Czech firemen tackle ever largest number of accidents in 2007
In 2006 the firemen intervened in 7,200 fewer cases.
The number of both fires and road accidents with intervening firefighters increased last year in comparison with the previous period.
There were 21,858 such fires, while another 500 fires did not require firefighters' assistance.
The material damage fires caused last year exceeds 2.1 billion crowns, the largest sum since 2002.
A total of 125 people died in fires last year, which is 19 people fewer than in 2006 and 14 fewer than in 2005.
On the other hand, the number of people injured in fires increased last year to 976 from the preceding year's 919.
