After a 15-year dispute, the court recently decided that the cathedral belongs to the state, but the Church appealed the verdict and the case will be discussed by a higher-level court again. Under the planned agreement, the church will not be allowed to draw financial profit from the cathedral, where no entrance fees will be collected from visitors, Pravo writes. Prague Castle, where the cathedral is situated, pledges in the agreement to see to the security of the mobile furnishing in the cathedral's premises open to the public. The Prague Castle Management will also secure all repairs, maintenance and restoration works on the cathedral. The Metropolitan Chapter at St Vitus, on its part, will enable the use of the cathedral for liturgic and religious purposes, Pravo writes, citing the planned agreement. The Chapter pledges not to pursue any activities in the Cathedral to earn money, except for accepting voluntary financial gifts from churchgoers.
It will share the energy costs with the state and pay 500 crowns a month to it as a contribution to the operational costs, Pravo writes. Prague Castle and the Metropolitan Chapter will also be bound to inform each other on the planned closure of the cathedral to the public on exceptional occasions such as state ceremonies, Pravo says. The Chapter is also bound to observe the security measures set by the Presidential Office and the Prague Castle Guard. ($1=17.889 crowns)
