KSCM to back Czech presidential candidate Svejnar in first round ...
leader Stanislav Grospic, Josef Skala, and MEP Jiri Mastalka, the source said on Monday, adding that Grospic might be Filip's strongest rival. The KSCM congress, to be held in Hradec Kralove, east Bohemia, in May, will also elect the party's deputy chairpersons. At the previous KSCM election congress four years ago, then party head Miroslav Grebenicek convincingly defended his post against then KSCM deputy chairman and current MEP Miloslav Ransdorf. However, Grebenicek resigned from the KSCM helm in the middle of the election tenure over internal disputes in the party. The KSCM congress also proposes programme documents. The Communists have been discussing the document "Socialism for the 21st century" for a long time that is to modernise the party.

However, it has stirred indignation among hard-core Communists and old members who have a crushing majority in the party. Some sources from the KSCM say that this year's congress will decide on the party's future course.
