The painting did not, however, beat the record held by Elevation IV by Czech painter Frantisek Kupka (1871-1957) that fetched 22.1 million crowns last October.
The painting was put up for auction by 1.Art Consulting Brno-Prague that also sold Kokoschka today.
The painting by Kokoschka (1886-1980) is one of a few works by foreign authors who rank among the most expensive to be put up on auction on the domestic market that is dominated by Czech painters, mainly representatives of the inter-war avant-garde and modern style.
The surcharge for Kokoschka was only 10 percent, so the buyer will pay 21.45 million crowns for it.
