The ODS senators were the last senator group Klaus visited ahead of the election. Jiri Stritezsky, chairman of the ODS senators, assured Klaus that all ODS senators would support him in the ballot. Stritezsky reacted to speculation that not all of the 122 ODS lawmakers might vote for Klaus in the secret ballot. The ODS senators signed a document nominating Klaus who is ODS honorary chairman as the party's official presidential candidate. The election of the Czech president by a joint session of the two houses of parliament will start on February 8.
Klaus is considered the election favourite.
