Some 42 percent said they wanted Klaus to be president, and the same portion supported Svejnar. More people are strongly opposed to Klaus than to Svejnar.
However, Czechs more often said they did not have a clear opinion on Svejnar than on Klaus. The voters of the senior ruling Civic Democrats (ODS) clearly prefer (83 percent) Klaus who is ODS honorary chairman. On the contrary, it is supporters of the left-wing opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) and Communists (KSCM) and of the junior ruling Greens who mostly oppose the idea of Klaus's continuing presidency. The Czech president will be elected by the members of the two houses of parliament on Friday.
