The defence said that during the demonstration Cermak had repeatedly asked Jacques not to enter the places where she could have got in contact with the neo-Nazi rally. Jacques, however, "intentionally and expediently" did not follow Cermak's instructions.
She wanted to gain publicity ahead of the then forthcoming general election, his defence lawyer said. Then Prague Police deputy director Zdenek Bezouska was punished for his subordinate's intervention against Jacques, as were another two police commanders on the district level.
