Some members of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), that nominated incumbent President Vaclav Klaus and its honorary chairman for re-election, did not like the strong criticism of Klaus made by Greens chairman Martin Bursik. The Greens say the ODS's reaction is unsubstantiated, and that the Civic Democrats are unable to cope with that the Greens have helped find a relevant rival to Klaus. "I do not think that the ODS's surprise is justified.

Greens to leave Czech cabinet if Cunek returns ... Mirek Topolanek (ODS), according to Tyden.cz server, and he allegedly even spoke before his fellow party members about dismissal of the Greens from government. Jacques said the Greens' stand had been clear since the very beginning and that the government coalition agreement does not speak about a joint procedure in the presidential election. The third coalition party are the Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL). Jacques said the fight for the presidential post should be a "competition of free ideas" and that the ODS should not press on Klaus's opponents saying that it would be a catastrophe if he were not elected and creating the atmosphere of fear. A part of the ODS, with ODS deputy chairman Pavel Bem at their head, said already previously that the failure to elect Klaus would result in the fall of the coalition government. Topolanek did not directly connect his government's existence with the presidential election, but said Klaus's failure would rock the ODS as well as the coalition.
