The president of East Timor.
Jose Ramos-Horta, has been injured by gunfire during an attack on his home, an army spokesman says.
A renegade soldier, Alfredo Reinado, was shot dead by the president's guards. The president was reportedly shot in the stomach.
Last November, Reinado had threatened to use force against the government.
He had been indicted for his alleged role in fighting between rebel troops and police in 2006.

One soldier was also reported to be seriously wounded.
It is unknown what condition President Ramos-Horta is in.
Reinado was allegedly involved in fighting which began in April 2006 and lead to unrest in which 37 people dead and more than 150,000 were forced to flee their homes.
Jose Ramos-Horta was prominent in the campaign against Indonesia rule, after the Portuguese withdrew from their former colony in 1975.
In 1996, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, jointly with Bishop Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo.
East Timor gained independence in 2002.
