"I do not want to set any date.
I will recognise it [Kosovo's independence] when I see that the overwhelming majority of European countries have recognised it and, second, when Separatists Damper EU Support for Independent Kosovo ...
Kosovo Parliament Declares Independence From Serbia ...
Green light for EU Kosovo mission ...
Final bid for Kosovo compromise ... I see that the behaviour of Kosovo authorities is such that I can bear responsibility for it [the recognition] with a clear conscience," Schwarzenberg said. The Czech Foreign Ministry has confirmed Schwarzenberg's stance in its official statement. "Following the results of today's meeting of the Council [of EU foreign ministers] and on condition the Kosovo government fulfills its commitments, the Czech Republic is prepared to launch respective internal procedures and recognise the independent Kosovo," the ministry says in its statement. Slovak Foreign Minister Jan Kubis, on the contrary, said he could not see any way of recognising Kosovo. Schwarzenberg said he expected some EU countries, including Britain and Austria, to recognise independent Kosovo today or tomorrow. Kubis said about 16 countries have indicated they are ready to recognise Kosovo today or at least announce today that they will do so in the nearest future. In the declaration of Kosovo's independence, which the local parliament approved on Sunday, Kosovo representatives pledge to meet the recommendations of Ahtisaari's plan that basically reckoned with the declaration of independence under international supervision and guaranteed the protection of the rights of ethnic minorities, mainly Serbs.
