Cunek was suspected of having accepted in 2002, when he was mayor of Vsetin, north Moravia, a half a million bribe from the H&B Real company for the sale of the town's majority stake in the Vsetinske byty housing company. The state attorney halted Cunek's prosecution last November and Cunek now wants to return to government. Cunek resigned as deputy prime minister and local development minister when the bribery case was reopened last November.

Breach of EU law not published in Czech cannot be punished -court ... false testimony, providing a false expert opinion and attempted abetting. According to the police, Kudlik and Milan Pucek, deputy local development minister, provided a false alibi to Cunek. The state attorney has, however, charged only Kudlik while he halted Pucek's prosecution last December. ($1=16.864 crowns)
