A gas explosion in the southern French city of Lyon has injured at least 17 people and there may have been fatalities, police say.
The blast happened at a busy shopping street in the city centre during road maintenance, police were quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.
Firefighters have been sent to scene of the accident.
