In the past months, the lower house twice passed the legislation removing the grill that separated the dog and the fox. The Chamber passed the amendment last December, but the Senate rejected it in January and returned it to the Chamber. Those who wanted the grill to remain in the den argued that its removal was against the country's agreement with the Council of Europe. On the other hand, those who wanted the grill removed said training with the grill made real hunting too risky for foxhounds and even caused cruelty.

Embattled Italy PM backed by MPs ... to let their hounds enter dens and foxes multiplied excessively. After the Senate, the bill was returned to the Chamber of Deputies for appraisal also by President Vaclav Klaus. If the Chamber of Deputies wanted to outvote the Senate, at least 101 deputies would have to vote for it. This did not happen as the proposal was only supported by 86 out of the 174 deputies present.
