The current Czech law does not allow this, but Canada, for instance, demands such type of passport for children under five within the agreement on visa-free relations. The reason for the postponement of the issue of new passports are problems on the European Union side, the government said. Interior Minister Ivan Langer (senior ruling Civic Democrats, ODS) explained that the European Commission had delayed the approval of the technical specifications for the improvement of security mechanisms connected with the issue of the new type of passports. The security measures are to ensure the protection of fingerprints and access to them.
