A Gothic cathedral in the eastern German town of Halberstadt has re-opened its art-filled treasury vaults, following major renovations.
The chambers below St. Stephen's cathedral contain a number of medieval gems, including altar pieces, sculptures, manuscripts and works in gold that have been collected over more than a millenium. Byzantine and Islamic art is also represented. But perhaps the most famous items in the collection are some of Europe's oldest tapestries dating back to the 12th century.
