Russia's biggest political party, United Russia says it plans to create the new post of party chairman and offer the job to outgoing President Vladimir Putin.
Party boss Boris Gryzlov told reporters in Moscow that Putin would be offered the post at a party conference later this week. United Russia, controls the lower house of parliament and has close ties to the Kremlin. Putin is to step down as president on May 7. His elected successor, Dmitry Medvedev has said that he would appoint Putin as prime minister.
