Other KDU-CSL candidates for MEP (placed third to sixth) are Ondrej Benesik, deputy head of the party's regional branch in Zlin, south Moravia, former deputy Jaroslav Lobkowicz, Marie Jilkova from the party's branch in Pardubice, and KDU-CSL deputy head David Macek. The Christian Democrats finished fourth in the first EP elections in the Czech Republic four years ago, gaining two seats. The current senior government Civic Democrats (ODS) won the EP polls with nine seats, followed by the opposition Communists (KSCM) with six mandates and the Independents' Association/ European Democrats (ED) that gained three seats. The now senior opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) and the Independents have two MEPs each.
