Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak has expressed support for the proposal for a union of European nations and countries along the Mediterranean rim.
Mubarak made the comment, supporting a proposal by his French counterpart, Nicolas Sarkozy, during an address to the French entrepreneurs' association MEDEF. France sees Egypt as an important part in the planned Union for the Mediterranean. The proposal had originally struck opposition from German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and was altered to include selected other European Union countries. Mubarak is to meet Merkel and other German Ministers in Berlin on Wednesday.
