Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have met in Berlin, where they discussed the political crisis in Lebanon.
Germany has been actively trying to secure a resolution to the Lebanese crisis and has been strongly critical of what it sees as Syria's "unconstructive" role. Merkel and Mubarak agreed that Lebanon should get on with electing a new president in order to solve the political deadlock. Merkel also called for progress in the UN commission investigating the murder of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri in February 2005.
