The Israeli government has dismissed a Hamas proposal for a six-month truce in the Gaza Strip.
Government spokesman David Baker called the truce proposal a ruse aimed at giving the Palestinian Islamist group time to re-arm and re-group. Hamas had said it would stop firing rockets into Israeli settlements if Israel lifts its blockade of the Gaza Strip. The offer of a ceasefire came as Hamas was preparing massive protests on Friday at all border crossings in Gaza. This came after the United Nations announced that it has stopped food aid deliveries for 650,000 Palestinian refugees in Gaza because of fuel shortages.
