Some 20 Greenpeace activists started to occupy the spot height 718 in Brdy, the exact location of the radar, in the night to Monday. Majicek said No to Bases members would not only join the "photo-blockade" but also try to come directly to the spot height site. "We welcome any such event against the radar stationing in the Czech Republic.
We call on all citizens and radar opponents to support the protest on the fotoblokada.cz website and directly on the spot," Majicek said. He added that people from the initiative will use all legal means to reach the spot in Brdy. Greenpeace occupies Czech site where U.S. radar base is to stand ...

Greenpeace activists have put up tents at the site and fixed up a giant banner between the trees. They plan to stay for several days at the site and stage various events. One of the planned events is a "photo blockage," in which the protesters will photograph people with a flyer reading "My aim is not to be aimed at." However, they have not yet started any of these activities since it is constantly raining in Brdy. The protesters admit that their further activities depend on weather. Military spokesman Jan Cermak said the police kept monitoring the situation on the spot and checked entries to military grounds. If the police meet some people walking towards the site in the military forests, they send them back. "We suppose that the military wants to prevent the media from coming to see us," Greenpeace spokeswoman Jana Borakova said. Earlier this month, Greenpeace protested against the U.S. radar project, part of the U.S. missile-defence shield, outside the Government Office. A week ago, participants in a protest march, organised by the junior opposition Communists (KSCM), wanted to reach the spot height 718 but the military banned this saying the military district is designed for soldiers' training, not for political meetings. The United States plans to build a radar base in Brdy, along with a base for ten interceptor missiles in Poland as elements of the U.S. missile defence shield that is to protect the United States and a large part of Europe against missiles that states like Iran might launch. Most Czechs oppose the project, according to polls.
