In Venezuela officials appealed for calm after a major power outage hit almost half of the South American country.
There was wide-spread traffic chaos in the capital Caracas during the afternoon rush hour as the power cut disabled traffic lights and took out mobile phone services. The outage lasted around ninety minutes and was caused by overheating of the electrical grid in eastern Venezuela according to power officials.
