At a summit on Wednesday Hu and Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda hope to unveil a joint blueprint for managing ties in coming years. China suspended high-level contact with Japan from 2001 to 2006 during the premiership of Junichiro Koizumi. Hu's five-day visit will be his longest trip to a single foreign country since he took power in 2003 and only the second ever by a Chinese president to Japan.
