Norway and the European Union have pledged nearly 650 million Euros in aid to Sudan as a donor's conference in Norway's capital gets underway.
The yearly Oslo meeting is aimed at helping Africa's largest nation recover from years of internal warfare. As well as fiscal donations the donors aim to further support the north-south peace treaty reached in Sudan in 2005. Sudan's Vice President Ali Osman Taha urged the conference to put their focus on development; saying the transition from humanitarian aid to development aid was Sudan's main hope for peace.
