The European Commission and the European Central Bank say Slovakia can adopt the euro next year.The European Commission says it will ask EU finance ministers and EU leaders to approve Slovakia's membership in June.
This decision clears the way for the country to become the 16th "euro" nation on 1 Jan. 2009. The European Central Bank did however warn Slovakia of concerns that inflation may rise more than the euro average in the future due to tight labour market restrictions and surging energy prices.
