08.05.2008 - First UN aid plane lands in Burma

The United Nations says its first plane carrying emergency response equipment has arrived in Burma to help survivors of last Saturday's cyclone.

The World Food Programme has said it is still unclear how much aid Burma's military Government will allow into the country. State media says up to one million people have been left homeless and up to 23,000 killed by Cyclone Nargis. The US top diplomat in Burma estimates the deathtoll may be closer to 100,000.
