Lebanon's capital Beirut is at a standstill for a second day as Hezbollah-led opposition supporters tighten their grip on the city's infrastructure.
The Lebanese army has warned that its unity will be threatened if the political crisis in Beirut continues after strikes demanding wage increases turned violent. The division of the army, seen as one of Lebanon's most neutral institutions, along sectarian lines in 1976 was a key moment in Lebanon's descent into civil war.
