Germany has marked the 75th anniversary of the book burnings under Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime.
At the main ceremony in Berlin, President Horst Köhler said that Germans recalled with shame how people all over the country applauded and cheered as the books of Sigmund Freud, Karl Marx and others were tossed into the fires. The event is also to be remembered in Berlin, Munich and other cities on Saturday, with public readings from books that were burned on May 10, 1933.
