South African President Thabo Mbeki has met with his Zimbabwean counterpart, Robert Mugabe, in Harare.
Mbeki, who is acting as the region's chief mediator for Zimbabawe's political crisis, did not comment on the outcome of his three-hour session of talks. The two leaders are believed to have discussed a potential second round of the presidential election. Mbeki did not meet with representatives of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change. The MDC has called for Mbeki to be axed as mediator because of his gentle approach towards Mugabe.
