At the World Ice Hockey Championships in Canada: Germany's slim chances of advancing to the quarterfinals have been dashed after they were beaten 10-1 by the host nation in a game played in Halifax.
This also means that they have failed to directly qualify for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Germany will now have to take part in an Olympic qualifying tournament early next year.
