Burma's military junta says that there has been a huge turnout for its referendum on a new constitution.
According to the regime, voters were almost unanimous in support of the constitution, which critics say will simply strengthen the junta's power. The vote went ahead despite calls by the international community to concentrate on organising aid relief for an estimated million victims of last week's cyclone. Official figures say around 28,000 people were killed when cyclone Nargis slammed into the Irrawaddy Delta region. United Nations officials fear the actual death toll could be more than 100,000.
