Haiti's parliament has rejected the nomination of a new prime minister.
Ericq Pierre, a senior official with the Inter-American Development bank, was rejected for the post by 51 votes to 35. Pierre won the backing of the senate in a vote last week. He had been nominated by Haiti's president after former Prime Minister Jacques-Edouard Alexis was sacked in April over food riots which killed at least six people and wounded around 200. Opposition senators accused Alexis of failing to boost food production.
