UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was among the foreign power-brokers who had asked Thai premier Samak Sundaravej to act as a mediator with the regime. Nations offering help and the UN Secretary-General have expressed frustration over the stalled efforts to relieve up to 1.5 million people suffering from the aftermath of Burma's cyclone. Two US cargo aircraft are expected to fly in supplies on Tuesday after three US and French planes were allowed to land in Rangoon a day earlier. Burmese state television reports that the death toll has risen to 32,000. International relief agencies fear that at least 100,000 people are already dead.
