Czech Supreme State Attorney calls for more independence ... crushed buildings following Monday's quake. State media said more than 50,000 troops had been deployed in the all-out rescue effort. But efforts to reach the worst-hit areas were badly disrupted by torrential rain and landslides, especially near the epicentre of the 7.9-magnitude quake in the south-western province of Sichuan. Germany and many other countries have offered assistance.
