Czech civilian intelligence to be reinforced by 46 new employees ... "Mr Paroubek likes the idea of a joint candidacy with Slovakia," Pavel Mokry, head of the Czech soccer association CMFS, said. If Czechs want to organise the championship, they need to build new soccer arenas with a capacity of at least 30,000. Paroubek today repeatedly said his possible future cabinet would earmark one billion crowns for the construction of a new national stadium for up to 50,000 spectators. He also discussed security at stadiums with the CMFS representatives.
Mokry said they agreed that police should be present at soccer matches. However, under a new bill police would not be present at stadiums and they would intervene only in case the organisers failed to cope with the situation. Mokry said the presence of judges at stadiums who could punish soccer hooligans on the spot seemed a step towards a higher security as well. The new measure was applied for the first time during a first league match last weekend. While CMFS officials said they agreed on most issues with Paroubek, Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek (Civic Democrats, ODS) has not nodded to meeting them until now. ($1=16.166 crowns)
