China's disaster relief office has said that up to 50,000 people are now estimated to have died in the country's worst earthquake in 30 years.

Taiwan warned over independence ... areas in the Sichuan province with dozens of extra helicopters and planes brought in to make aid airdrops. Earlier the Chinese government said it would allow the first foreign rescue teams from Japan and Taiwan into Sichuan to help with relief efforts.
