The politicians also signed two cooperation agreements that should facilitate Czech companies' entry in the Colombian market. "We agreed to continue the discussion because our combat planes can be a suitable training supplement to the Israeli fighter planes that the Colombian military has bought," Topolanek told journalists. "No binding talks were Colombian President's cousin seeks political asylum ...

The purchase of Czech subsonic planes have continued between the two countries' defence ministries for some time now. The Czech military wants to sell 43 redundant aircraft. The Czech military uses only 24 out of the total of 72 aircraft it bought from the Czech Aero company. Four planes have been transformed into bi-seaters, one aircraft crashed and the rest is up for sale. The Czech republic has been negotiating about the sale of L-159 planes with other countries as well. One of the two agreements signed today is about cooperation in energy industry and mining.
The other one deals with cooperation in environmental protection. Czech companies would like to build small hydroelectric power stations in remote areas of Colombia. Topolanek also presented to Uribe the Czech republic as European Union president in the first half of 2009 when EU countries will meet Latin American countries associated in the Rio de Janeiro Group, including Colombia, in Prague. Topolanek is still to meet the Colombian parliament lower house leadership and then leave for Peru where he will attend an EU-Latin America summit on Friday.
