Germany's domestic intelligence service says Islamist terrorists pose the greatest threat to Germany and view it increasingly as a potential target, partly because of Germany's NATO troop deployment in northern Afghanistan.
Presenting the agency's annual report, Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble said Germany had been lucky to escape attacks so far due to preventative steps taken by security services. The report also documents growing anti-Semitism among right-wing extremists within Germany, saying Neo-Nazis are using the Internet and pop music in bids to recruit young people. Schäuble said the intelligence service would continue to observe The Left party, which originates in part from former communist East Germany.
