German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier has capped a visit to Russia by paying his respects to the victims of the siege of St. Petersburg in the Second World War.
Around 1.1 million people are thought to have died in the 800 day siege of Russia's second city, known then as Leningrad. Earlier, Steinmeier held meetings in Moscow with First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov as well as the outspoken Kremlin critic and former chess champion, Garry Kasparov.
