German Chancellor Angela Merkel is in Lima for a European Union-Latin America summit, which is to begin in a few hours' time. Leaders from around 50 countries are to attend the talks, which are to focus on ways of combatting poverty, increased energy costs and global warming. Shortly after her arrival in the Peruvian capital, the chancellor met with President Alan Garcia, who offered her his support in a verbal dispute with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
