05.06.2008 - Czech Senate passes controversial bill on cell phones
Under the amendment, the operators must register when and from where and to whom their clients called.
The amendment is yet to be signed by President Vaclav Klaus.
Industry and Trade Minister Martin Riman (senior ruling Civic Democrats, ODS) pointed to the fact that the bill only harmonises Czech law with EU legislation.
Social Democrat (CSSD) shadow interior minister Frantisek Bublan said previously the main shortcoming of the amendment was that the state would continue to pay all the expenses linked to the data storage.
Mobile phone operators are concerned about the possibility that the costs should be covered by them.
