State Attorney Renata Vesecka and her predecessor Marie Benesova, ruling that CSSD shadow justice minister Benesova need not apologise to Vesecka and other judiciary representatives, except for one, for her statements about "judiciary mafia." Benesova spoke about mafia-like practices in connection with the alleged manipulations in last year's corruption case of deputy PM Jiri Cunek. The Social Democrats are convinced that high judiciary representatives headed by Vesecka interfered in Cunek's case in an unauthorised way. Both the opposition and junior ruling Greens deputy group head Katerina Jacques say that the government should dismiss Vesecka. PM Mirek Topolanek and Justice Minister Jiri Pospisil (both ODS) have rejected the idea. The Greens want to open a debate on the situation at the Supreme Attorney's Office at the government meeting on Monday. The Social Democrats failed to include this issue into the lower house's ongoing session agenda today and this is why they initiated an extraordinary lower house session next week. The government coalition will probably try to block the extraordinary session on Vesecka to be held at 9:00 next Friday.
