Sharapova to miss Fed Cup semis ... the favourite in Saturday's French Open final against Dinara Safina.
The newly crowned world number one has lost two previous Grand Slam finals but now faces 13th seed and tournament surprise package Safina.
"I feel like a different player coming into this French Open," she said.
"I gained experience from the two finals so I really hope I can step up this time and make one more step."
Ivanovic suffered a heavy defeat by Justine Henin in last year's final at Roland Garros and was again beaten in straight sets in this year's Australian Open final against Maria Sharapova.
However, the 20-year-old, who claimed the world number one ranking with her semi-final win over Jelena Jankovic, believes the lessons she learned will stand her in good stead.
"The other day someone asked me, 'Are you going to forget last year's final and play a different one? No, because it was a great learning experience," said Ivanovic.
"I learned a lot from Justine and the emotions I was feeling going on the court. So I really hope I can work hard on it and play different this year. "
Safina is playing in her first Grand Slam final after an astonishing run in Paris.
The Russian, younger sister of Marat Safin, saved match points in her wins over Sharapova and Elena Dementieva before beating fourth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in straight sets.
The 22-year-old, speaking before Ivanovic's win over Jankovic, said she will have nothing to lose in the final.
"Pressure, no. They're the ones who are better ranked and better players, so all the pressure has to be on them. They have to prove."
Safina has lost two of three meetings with Ivanovic - although her sole win came on clay three years ago.
