Ireland's hopes of securing their first win over New Zealand were dashed as they ran out of steam in Wellington.
With a downpour making conditions difficult, the All Blacks claimed the first try through their prolific winger Sitiveni Sivivatu.
But Ireland hit back to lead 8-5 after centre Paddy Wallace had got through for a 20th-minute touchdown.
However, his opposite number Ma'a Nonu got the crucial score with a try midway through the second period.

The Irish had claimed the opening score when Ronan O'Gara landed a penalty in the ninth minute.
The All Blacks reponded just six minutes later with a well-constructed move from their own half which ended with winger Sivivatu scoring for his 22nd try in 22 Tests.
It started when Andrew Hore turned the ball over following a lost line-out and the ball was spun wide to Conrad Smith, who wrong-footed Brian O'Driscoll, burst through the gap and fired the ball out to Sivivatu.
The Irish hit back to take an 8-5 advantage when Ulster man Wallace was put through to land a try on 20 minutes.
Then a Dan Carter penalty levelled matters at 8-8 before half-time.
O'Gara and Carter exchanged further penalties before New Zealand surged forward to secure a crucial score with Nonu sliding over in the 64th minute.
Carter's third penalty stretched Ireland's deficit to double figures and effectively dashed their hopes of ending their 103-year winless streak against New Zealand.
