Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has criticized the United States for what he called "economic egotism" that has fuelled the ongoing global economic crisis.
The newly-installed president described Russia's growing economic might as a force for worldwide stabilization. Medvedev's comments to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum came exactly a month after his inauguration. Political observers say the gathering was one of the most high-profile domestic appearances of his presidency.
