Talks in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, between the rival Palestinian groups Fatah and Hamas have restored an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
That's according to a joint statement signed by representatives of both sides. Senegalese state media report that this was the first of seven rounds of talks to be chaired by President Abdoulaye Wade. The Senegalese president pledged at a March summit of Islamic states to try to mediate between Fatah and Hamas. The two groups have been at loggerheads since Hamas violently seized power in the Gaza Strip last year.
