Japan's prime minister says his country aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 60 to 80 percent by the year 2050.
Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda also said that Japan would contribute 1.2 billion dollars to an international greenhouse gas reduction fund. Japan is the world's fifth-largest emitter of greenhouse gases. Fukuda also announced that his country would establish a trial system for carbon trading this autumn. The announcement comes ahead of a G8 summit to be hosted by Japan next month.
