At the same time, the coalition has had tens of originally planned points deleted from the agenda of the session that has been paralysed by obstructions on the part of the opposition as well as delays on the coalition's part. The coalition then managed to push through its plan for the current session to be cut short. The parliamentary debate bogged down in disputes between the coalition and the opposition after the coalition on Wednesday attempted to push through a proposal increasing the number of members in lower house committees so that the number become odd instead of even. The opposition called this an attempt by the coalition to gain control of the committees irrespective of democratic rules and the mid-2006 election results. The opposition succeeded to prevent the relevant plenary vote from being taken throughout Wednesday, which the coalition labelled a long unseen political obstruction. This morning, nevertheless, it was only the coalition parties that repeatedly asked for breaks in the session. On Friday, the lower house will have an extraordinary meeting on the request of the senior opposition Social Democrats (CSSD), which is to deal with the situation in the Czech judiciary. Afterwards the extraordinary session might return to the coalition's controversial proposal concerning the number of committee members, and the lower house commission for the property settlement between the state and churches might be established.
