In a landmark ruling, the US Supreme Court has decided that detainees held at the US military base at Guantanamo Bay have the right to appeal to federal courts.
The Washington-based court narrowly ruled 5-4 that the government is violating the rights of prisoners being held indefinitely and without charges at Guantanamo. The US president, who is currently in Rome, said his administration would review the decision. Despite Thursday's ruling the US military trials of Guantanamo prisoners will continue.
